Royal Burials

St George's Chapel is the resting place of many Kings and Queens, particularly since the creation of the Royal Vault, which was built by George III. At the appropriate moment in the funeral service, the coffin descends into the vault below. Most Kings and Queens since George III have been buried at St George's. Members of the Royal Family have also been interred in the Royal Vault, but more recently, it has been normal to bury them in the Royal Family's Private Burial Ground at Frogmore in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
