The majority of our collections are freely open for consultation. Here you can find information about the different services we provide.

Searchroom

The printed and manuscript records from the collections are open to members of the public for consultation in our searchroom.

An appointment is required and prospective users wishing to arrange a visit should contact us.

When planning your visit, please note that the Archives and Library searchroom is normally open to readers Monday-Friday, 9.30am – 4.45pm (closed 1pm – 2pm for lunch).

Historical Enquiries and Research Service

The Archives and Chapter Library is happy to answer basic enquiries requiring up to 30 minutes research free of charge. However, if your enquiry requires detailed research, or use of original material, you may be advised to visit our searchroom. We also offer a research service for those requiring a more detailed search to be carried out on their behalf. The minimum search fee charge is £10 per half-hour.

Whilst it is sometimes possible to provide an answer by telephone, in order to give a considered response, we prefer to receive enquiries by email or letter.

Reprographics

Photocopies, photographic images and digital images of original material may be supplied on request, subject to the suitability of individual items for copying. Reproduction fees may apply, and our terms and conditions can be found here.
