A range of specially commissioned fine English bone china (hand finished in 22 carat gold) exclusive to St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle marking this anniversary year.
The 660th anniversary of the founding of the Order of the Garter and the College of St George by King Edward III in 1348.
The 60th anniversary of King George VI’s reintroduction of the annual service of thanksgiving in 1948.
1948 was also the year that Princess Elizabeth (four years before she became Queen Elizabeth II) and The Duke of Edinburgh were installed as members of the Order of the Garter in St George’s Chapel.
This year HRH Prince William of Wales will be invested as the 1000th Knight of the Order before his installation in St George’s Chapel on 16th June.
The main design is inspired by the vaulted ceilings of the Hastings and Oxenbridge Chantries within St George’s Chapel. The individual pieces feature various motifs.
All Garter 2008 pieces have the name, a Garter Badge and the number on the back stamp.
