Anglican
Choral Worship is a unique blend of music and liturgy which has evolved
over a thousand years and has a profound effect on all who attend. Sadly
it is now under threat throughout the church. The Choral Partnership is
a small, selected group of people connected with St George's Chapel, working
under the chairmanship of the Precentor, with the aim of ensuring that
within St George's Chapel this form of daily worship should continue at
the highest standard.
The
Choral Partnership finances concerts, commissions music for concerts and
for worship, purchases music for the music library and hires music as
needed. It has also purchased staging for concerts. It is now establishing
a capital fund which in time will realise sufficient income to ensure
that no boy of talent will be unable to accept a place as a chorister
because his parents cannot meet the balance of the costs of his education
at St George's School. The Dean and Canons pay half fees for each chorister
(currently about £4,500 a year per chorister).
As well as receiving many individual donations, the Partnership runs
a variety of evening events. These range from pre-booked conducted tours
of the Chapel for parties of 30-80 after attending Evensong, to more elaborate
events for Livery Companies or specialist groups. These events may start
with Evensong or include a private Recital by the Choir in the Quire and
end with a Buffet Supper. The Partnership also manages specially constructed
events for Corporate Entertainment. It also seeks large donations and
the endowment of half-fee Bursaries which can, of course, carry the name
of the donor.
