...as a Chorister.

todayChoristerships are awarded by the Dean and Canons after auditions held twice a year, in November and in March, to boys aged between 7 and 9. At the audition they sing a piece of their own choice, do some ear and rhythm tests, and play a piece on their instrument; they also do an academic aptitude test for the school. For the right boy, the life of a chorister is a wonderful experience, one which will be with him throughout his adult life. It teaches discipline, team-work and responsibility, quite apart from musical development, which is second to none. Whilst a chorister, the Dean and Canons pay a generous proportion of the school fees. As well as the regular services in the Chapel the choristers take part in broadcasts (radio and TV), recordings and concerts away from Windsor, both in the UK and abroad.

...as a Lay Clerk.

todayVacancies for lay clerks occur from time to time and are advertised nationally and on the vacancies page of this website. A lay clerk is appointed after a two-part audition with, in the first instance, the Organist, his Assistant and one of the clergy of the Chapel and, in the second, in front of all the lay clerks and the Dean and Canons, who also conduct a verbal interview. The lay clerks live in the buildings that are situated around the Chapel in the Horseshoe Cloister and on Denton's Commons.

...as Organ Scholar.

, Organ ScholarAuditions for the post of Organ Scholar are held once a year, usually in January or February, and the scholarship runs from September through to July. Gap year or post-graduate students are equally welcome to apply. The scholarship has an enviable track-record - past organ scholars include Thomas Trotter, Wayne Marshall, Andrew Nethsingha and Philip Scriven, and more recently Jonathan Vaughn and Francesca Massey. At the audition, held on the chapel organ, applicants are asked to play a piece of J.S.Bach of their choice and another piece by a composer of their own choice. They will be asked to do some tests - sight-reading, transposition, score-reading and improvisation, and the short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the Dean and Canons.
