Make a lasting difference by leaving a legacy to the College of St George.
If you would like to help ensure a secure future for the College, a gift in your Will can be an easy way to help.
A legacy is a way of acknowledging the hospitality that the College of St George has given you and many other visitors. Your gift will ensure that we continue to uphold the unique traditions of the past for the generations of the future.
You will ensure that crucial resources are in place to help us plan and secure the future of the College of St George with confidence. Every gift, whatever the amount, can help us conserve and care for the College, support the work of its community, and ensure the preservation of these historic buildings for future generations.
There are many ways in which your gift will help support the College of St George.
An unrestricted gift allows the Dean and Canons to decide how the funds might be most effectively used. You could also choose to specify your gift so that it goes to a particular aspect of the College’s work, for example:
CHORAL – to help provide funding for the Choir and the continuance of the choral tradition at St George’s Chapel.
FABRIC – to help ensure that the fabric of the Chapel and its surrounding buildings are maintained for future generations.
REVENUE – to help maintain and run the Chapel on a day to day basis.
If you are considering making or changing your Will, please take legal advice. In most cases you can make a simple addition to your existing Will with a codicil. The following suggested clauses may be of help to you and your solicitor:
For a pecuniary gift (a fixed sum of money decided by you): “I give the Foundation of the College of St George (Registered Charity Number 1118295) the sum of £___ for its general purpose.”
For a residuary gift (the amount of the whole or portion of your estate after other legacies, Inheritance Tax and expenses have been paid): “I give the Foundation of the College of St George (Registered Charity Number 1118295) ___% of the residue of my estate for general purposes.”
For a specific gift (a bequest of specific personal possessions such as property or stocks and shares): “I give the Foundation of the College of St George (Registered Charity Number 1118295) my ____ for its general purpose.”
Or, to support a specific part of our work*: “I give the Foundation of the College of St George (Registered Charity Number 1118295) insert wording for a residuary/pecuniary/specific gift as appropriate and I wish this to be used for _____ purposes.”
* if you have a specific part of our work, other than those mentioned above, which you would like to see benefit from your gift please contact us before finalising your Will so you can be sure that your wishes can be met.
