The Canons’ Cloister refurbishment project won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors South-East Region Building Conservation Award on 16 May from a shortlist of eleven.
The citation stated “The refurbishment project provided a remarkable opportunity for re-discovering further evidence of the original floor plan and structure. This, combined with the refurbishment, which included replacing the existing copper roof with a new lead roof, replacing cementitious render with traditional lime render, masonry cleaning and repairs, and structural repairs, made the conservation of the Canons Cloister a project of national significance”.
