New book about King Charles I

New book about King Charles I

A prologue by Archivist and Chapter Librarian, Dr Clare Rider, begins this new book (King Charles 1: his burial and relics at St George’s Chapel) which brings together out of print articles by the Reverend Edmund Fellowes (first published in 1950) and Sir Henry Halford’s account of the opening of the vault  in the Quire in 1813. In addition A.Y Nutt, Surveyor of the Fabric, wrote some notes about the vault in 1888 which have never been published but are included in this new book which also includes plans, drawings and photographs. Dr Rider’s prologue brings to the fore the recent work by archaeologist Tim Tatton-Brown regarding the slightly different positions of vault and ledger stone. The book is available from the Chapel gift shop in the Dean’s Cloister or via the website (www.stgeorges-windsor.org); the cost is £6.
