The Deanery

The Deanery

A large scaffolding is currently being built around the Deanery. As before with the Canons Cloister, the Deanery scaffolding will be sheeted in plastic and will have a corrugated-metal roof to protect the Deanery from the weather whilst comprehensive external repairs are taking place.

These will include removal of the old copper roofing and complete re-roofing using new cast-lead together with re-using the old hand-made tiles and riven slates, thorough repairs to rainwater pipes and gutters, an overhauling and re-decoration of all of the windows putting them into good working order, repairing the external render to the walls, conserving the historic heraldic plaques to the Deanery Entrance Yard elevations, and also the taking-down of the (modern) front garden wall and replacing it with something more in-keeping of the setting within the Castle, necessary to enable contractors access to the repair works from Chapel Hill. The scaffolding is likely to be standing until September 2014.  The Dean and Mrs Conner have moved into the Cloisters.
